Temporary Crown Placement in Tucson, AZ

A temporary crown is exactly what it sounds like: a short-term cap placed over a tooth to protect it until a permanent crown is ready. It is made from acrylic or composite material and is designed to be functional for a few weeks, not a few years.

You might need a temporary crown after a root canal (the treated tooth needs protection), when a tooth breaks and needs a full crown (the temporary covers it while the permanent one is custom-made), or when a crown falls off and the original cannot be recemented.

Dr. Torres can make and place a temporary crown in a single visit at our Tucson office. He prepares the tooth, takes an impression for the permanent crown, and then fabricates the temporary right there. The temporary is cemented with a weaker adhesive (intentionally, so it can be removed easily later) and matched to your natural tooth color.

While wearing a temporary crown, avoid sticky foods (caramel, taffy, gum) that can pull it off. Chew on the other side when possible. Brush normally but floss gently around the temporary, pulling the floss out sideways rather than snapping it up, to avoid dislodging it.

If your temporary crown comes off before your permanent crown appointment, call us. We can usually recement it in a quick visit. Do not leave the tooth exposed for long, as it can shift, become sensitive, or develop decay.
