Over-the-counter whitening strips and toothpastes help a little, but professional whitening is significantly more effective because we use higher concentrations of whitening agents and custom-fitted application methods.

At our Tucson office, Dr. Torres offers two whitening options. In-office whitening uses a professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel applied to your teeth in a controlled environment. The treatment takes about one hour, and most patients see their teeth lighten by several shades in a single visit.

Take-home whitening uses custom-made trays molded to fit your teeth exactly, plus a professional-grade whitening gel. You wear the trays for 30 to 60 minutes per day (or overnight, depending on the formulation) for one to two weeks. The results are gradual but can be just as dramatic as in-office treatment.

Not everyone is a good candidate for whitening. Teeth with veneers, crowns, or large fillings will not respond to whitening agents. Very dark staining from tetracycline antibiotics may need veneers instead. Dr. Torres will assess your teeth during a consultation and recommend the best approach.

Professional whitening in Tucson costs $250 to $600 depending on the method. Take-home trays are on the lower end; in-office treatment costs more. Whitening is considered cosmetic, so dental insurance typically does not cover it.
